Dr. Arumairaj is a physician based in New York, serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College and an Attending Physician at New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. Originally from India, he spent the first 27 years of his life there, completing his schooling, medical school, and residency in Anaesthesiology. He furthered his training in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine in Australia. He has a strong passion for Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine and a deep interest in clinical research, envisioning a future as a physician-scientist dedicated to clinical medicine and research.
His motivation to become a critical care physician stemmed from his desire to treat critically ill and seriously injured patients. During his internship, Dr. Arumairaj had his first exposure to critical care medicine while doing a clinical rotation in the Intensive Care Unit. This experience, where he was part of a team of doctors reviving and resuscitating critically ill patients, ignited his passion for Critical Care Medicine. Since then, he has been diligently working towards his goal of becoming a trained critical care physician.

Dr. Arumairaj has conducted multiple original research projects in Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine, all approved by the Biomedical Research Alliance of New York (BRANY).
His first project focused on the predictive value of the APACHE IV score in sepsis, resulting in four research papers. The initial paper, “Determining the Association Between the Origin of Sepsis and the Severity of Sepsis in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Patients Using Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) IV,” demonstrated that the origin of infection is an independent predictor of sepsis severity, contributing to the heterogeneity of the sepsis syndrome. At the Society of Critical Care Medicine Conference 2024, Dr. Arumairaj presented research titled “Trends in Mortality Among Adult Patients with Septic Shock Undergoing ECMO: NIS Analysis 2016–2020.” The findings indicated that there was no overall mortality benefit observed in adult patients with septic shock undergoing ECMO treatment.
